SOUPER BOWL OF CARING 2012
"Let's meet at my house before the game."
GOD
MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO, the Souper Bowl of Caring
began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:“Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football games,
help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.”
Amen.
Be part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need.
Please give generously on Souper Bowl Sunday.Every dollar donated goes to Opportunity House,
our 2012 Souper Bowl of Caring charity of choice.
MID WEEK LENTEN SERVICES
(February 29, March 7, 14, 21, & 28)
This year our focus will be on PRAYER. It is one of the most powerful spiritual resources at our disposal, yet we are often are hesitant, inconsistent or lukewarm in our efforts to pray. The disciples did not ask Jesus to teach them how to preach or heal, they asked him to teach them how to pray. They saw firsthand how Jesus was strengthened and empowered through his frequent times of prayer and connection with his heavenly Father, and they wanted to experience those benefits themselves. So should we! The Lord’s Prayer was meant to be a model, or a guide to help us in our prayers, not the only prayer we ever pray. In each mid-week study we will take time to explore the power of prayer, why prayer matters, how to pray authentically, how to pray differently, and how prayer strengthens and transforms.
The format for Wednesday evenings in Lent will be:
6:15- 6:45 P.M. Light Supper in the Fellowship Hall (soup, bread, beverages)
6:45- 7:30 P.M. Focus on Prayer (Study/discussion)
7:30- 8:00 P.M. Worship (Each week a different type of prayer service)
Child Care will be provided from 6:45- 8 P.M. if needed. If interested, please sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board by February 19th.
Soup Makers are needed. We are hoping to have two different soups for the five weeks. If you can help, please sign up on the church bulletin board indicating what kind of soup you will be making/bringing. Donations of bread/crackers would also be appreciated. Beverages will be provided.
MISSION TRIP 2012
Zions mission trip is set for June 25-30, that is Monday through Saturday.
The group will travel by car to Bertie County, N.C., which was hit by tornadoes
last spring. The purpose is to bless and be blessed. It is a journey to a place that
needs volunteers to help their recovery, but more importantly it is a Faith journey.
Seek to see God's presence in every situation and you will find God is there.
Samaritan‘s Purse is the organizer of this rebuild project at the site. Meals and
sleeping quarters are provided. Volunteers bring their air mattress or cot and linens.
Zion‘s members who would like to go on this trip are asked to pay $50, which will
help pay for food and travel expense. Scholarships are available for those who
find that doesn‘t fit their budget. All skill levels are welcome. Volunteers must be
at least 14 years old. Youth ages 14 & 15 must be accompanied by their parent
or legal guardian.
To commit to going on the trip, please submit a check for $50
by the end of January.
